1. Bloodborne

The Souls series may be what sparked FromSoftware's meteoric rise from your everyday developer to world-renowned industry heavyweight, but it's Bloodborne that cemented that reputation, and in spectacular fashion, might I add.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is assuredly a master of his craft, that's clear as day, but it wasn't until he gave us the Gothic city of Yharnam that it truly felt official. The original Dark Souls will always hold a special place in my heart, but it certainly had its fair share of technical flaws and pacing issues that needed to be addressed.

Bloodborne is the result of Miyazaki-san's constant desire to improve on his own works. Not shackled by expectations that come with an established franchise (look how the reception for Dark Souls II turned out), Miyazaki created arguably the best action RPG of this generation by taking everything people love about Souls, sped it up and then placed it within a horrifying world that H. P. Lovecraft would have been proud of.
