18 Essential Landmark Titles Every Gamer Must Play

15. Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot is hardly the most sophisticated of games, and the 1996 original isn't even the best in the series either, but for those of the PlayStation era, a certain undeniable fondness still remains for the game. Released only a year after the console's European release, there was hardly a unit sold that didn't have this game put inside at some point. And that isn't without good reason, either. While the gameplay may be simplistic, it's also endlessly fun and endlessly replay-able. It's a quirky 3D take on the classic side-scrolling formula making faultless use of collectible elements, and Crash Bandicoot still stands up as an enjoyable game even today. The unforgettable soundtrack evokes as much welcome nostalgia as the PlayStation's startup sound too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i8qAZOu5-g And to top it all off, it's difficult not to fall in love with Crash as a character.
