20 Best Cutscenes In The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

2. Paz's Hidden Bomb - MGSV GZ

Metal Gear Solid V deviates from the other games in the franchise for multiple reasons. Firstly, the game is more action-oriented, and the cutscenes are few and far between. Secondly, the legendary David Hayter was replaced by Hollywood legend, Kiefer Sutherland for the voice of Snake. Finally, it is much darker in tone. The franchise’s move away from campy theatrics and overacted cutscenes become apparent during the conclusion of the prologue of Ground Zeroes.

After successfully rescuing Paz and Chico from imprisonment at Camp Omega, Snake evacuates the area onboard Morpho, the MSF Helicopter. Inside the helicopter, Paz is laid out on a gurney with a bloody torso, after getting a bomb removed from her stomach.

Snake makes it back to Mother Base in an attempt to save his men from a sabotage attack.

Snake witnesses Mother Base collapse into the sea while onboard Morpho, as Miller shouts his famous line, ‘they played us like a damn fiddle!’ Miller turns his anger on Paz, and she whimpers about a bomb. Snake tries to calm her down, reassuring her it was removed. Paz shakes her head before jumping from Morpho, exploding once she was outside the cabin. A second bomb was planted inside Paz in ‘a place they’d never look.’

Many people have criticised Kojima’s decision to locate the second bomb in such a place. However, it adds tremendous weight to indicate just how much darker the franchise is turning in its fifth instalment.
