A bold re-imagining of the world's most beloved RPG - well, like 20% of it - FFVII Remake largely lives up to the hype with its gorgeous visuals, fluid combat, and sheer ambitious expansion of the original game.

Though weighed down somewhat by obvious padding and bloat, the overall experience is such a reverent yet creative reinvention of what came before that it's sure to leave fans both new and old grinning from ear to ear.

You certainly couldn't call this a lazy or low-effort cash-grab, even if it remains to be seen how the rest of the remake project will turn out.
