16. Yakuza: Dead Souls

The Yakuza series is arguably the biggest it’s ever been. With a new game nearly every year, whether it’s a remake or a brand new entry, Yakuza fans have not gone hungry since 2017 when Yakuza 0 took the world by storm.

Since then, we’ve seen a number of Yakuza games be released, including remakes of older games. We’ve seen Yakuza 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Ishin all get remakes or remasters for modern hardware, but there’s been one entry that’s been hidden away.

Yakuza: Dead Souls was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2011 in Japan and 2012 in Europe and North America, with a pretty lukewarm reception. So, why would we want to see this game make a comeback? The answer is easy; it’s absolutely bonkers.

Yakuza games are well-known by now for their absurdity and ability to have fun with their characters. Dead Souls was the first in the series to let players fight, wait for it, zombies. The basic premise is that Kamurocho has been hit with a sudden zombie outbreak, and the only people who can save the day are Shun Akiyama, Goro Majima, Ryuji Goda and Kazuma Kiryu. And if that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will.
