20 Greatest Multiplayer Games Ever

11. Nidhogg

Developer: Messhof Platform: PC, Mac OS X, Playstation 4 Release: 2014 Nidhogg goes to show that a game can still look great without fancy HD resolutions and millions of polygons. Released earlier this year to critical acclaim, Nidhogg might be the best local 2-player game of the last 5 years. The game pits two duellists against each other, as they fight to the death. Nidhogg's combat system is simple but deep, centred around being able to hold your sword at three different heights: either low, medium or high. In addition, it's possible to perform dive kicks, wall jumps and throw your sword. Nidhogg must be played with a friend on the same screen to get the maximum enjoyment from it, and needs to be seen in motion to appreciate how mesmerising the colourful graphics and smooth animations are.
