Gears of War: E-Day Release Date: TBD, 2026

The last mainline Gears of War game, Gears 5, released all the way back in 2019, so it's safe to say that fans are solidly overdue a new entry, which is set to arrive next year with Gears of War: E-Day.

E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the events of the original game, and will focus on Marcus and Dom as they fight to survive Emergence Day against the overwhelming Locust Horde.

The game will take place in a new locale for the series - Kalona, which was one of the first cities to fall to the Locust, and should ensure that E-Day is an unrelentingly intense thrill ride.

Co-developer The Coalition has promised that the game will further flesh out the friendship between Marcus and Dom while also delivering well-placed fan service, such as revealing the origins of the series' most iconic weapon, the Lancer.

And after Gears 5 introduced a relatively divisive open world gameplay template, E-Day will be back to the more linear progression of prior titles. 

All the same, it's exciting to return to a franchise which so brilliantly reinvented the third-person shooter 20 years ago.
