20 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies Of The Decade
19. The Merge - Cronos: The New Dawn (2025)
The developers behind Layers Of Fear, Observer, Blair Witch, and the exquisite remake of Silent Hill 2, Polish developers Bloober Team have created some of the decade's best horror outings. Their latest release, Cronos: The New Dawn, is no exception, blending atmospheric sci-fi action with grotesque body horror to delightful effect.
Set within a post-apocalyptic Poland where a plague has transformed humanity into fleshy mutants known as Orphans, the game sees players step into the role of The Traveller. It's their mission to travel back in time to extract vital knowledge that could stop the cataclysmic event from happening.
Taking its cues from Dead Space and Resident Evil, players must make the most out of their limited resources when encountering this game's collection of enemies. While running is sometimes the best option in other survival horrors, Cronos makes players weigh this decision extremely carefully. Should they forget to burn some corpses, they risk another enemy merging with the bodies to become much stronger.
This game's version of Crimson Heads, the constant worry of The Merged appearing while backtracking is what keeps the tension at a fever pitch. The result is one of this studio's most underrated offerings to date.
