4. Captain Blood
Gather round to hear the tall tale of Captain Blood - a swashbuckling action-adventure game based on Rafael Sabatini's 1922 book of the same name, which began development all the way back in 2003.
Though intended to release for Xbox and PC in 2006, production was beset by restarts, legal issues, and the intended publisher going bankrupt, leaving Captain Blood effectively dead by 2010.
But an alum of original developer Akella announced in 2020 that he planned to revive and finish the game, with it finally releasing this past May.
And Captain Blood is pretty much what you'd expect from a game that's been collecting dust for the better part of 15 years - unapologetically of-its-era, and while one might find the mid-2000s gameplay mildly charming for a few minutes, it can't sustain a full retail whack in 2025.
If you slapped a pirate theme on the original God of War and cleaved away its finessed hack 'n' slash gameplay along with most of its artistry, you'd end up with something like this.
