20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World
18. Half-Life: Alyx
By 2019, an entire 12 years had passed since the release of the last Half-Life game, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, which concluded on an infuriating cliffhanger.
As the years passed, many fans grew to assume that Valve had internally cancelled Episode Three as the prospect of a follow-up to Episode Two felt increasingly slim.
But in November 2019, Valve shocked the world with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx - a VR-exclusive prequel to Half-Life 2 revolving around Gordon Freeman's future pal Alyx Vance.
The reveal sent shockwaves throughout the Internet, and though some were disappointed both that the game wasn't a direct follow-up to Episode Three and was stuck on VR hardware, it nevertheless proved to many that Valve hadn't abandoned Half-Life, in turn making the prospect of future Half-Life games considerably more likely.
Hell, recent rumours even suggest that Valve might be releasing Half-Life 3 as a launch title for their impending Steam Machine, but as ever, it's worth taking such scuttlebutt with a truckload of salt.
