Baldur’s Gate 3 is brimming with secrets that you won’t know exist even after your second or even third playthrough. Some of them can even be hidden within other secrets you find, like the possibility of your character becoming a vampire spawn.

One of your companions, the high elf Astarion, is, spoiler alert, an escaped vampire spawn who seeks to kill his master Cazador before the latter can enslave him again.

Throughout the story, you learn of Cazador’s plan to become the Vampire Ascendant, a godlike vampire who can walk in the sun. When you reach Cazador’s lair in Baldur’s Gate in Act 3, Astarion gets the option to usurp Cazador’s ritual, turning into the Vampire Ascendant himself.

This decision provides him with incredible powers, like the improved vampire bite, but what some players miss is that the ritual can also make their own character stronger.

If you have romanced Astarion all the way to Act 3, when he completes the ritual, you get the option to ask him to turn you into his spawn.

This will provide you with Astarion’s original powers, including his bonus action bite that can heal you and provide a bonus to your rolls for feeding on mortals.

Considering it’s a free bonus action just for being Astarion’s lover, it’s a pretty good deal.
