Resident Evil 7 has been in gamers' hands for a while now, and it's safe to say that the long-awaited follow-up to the critically reviled sixth game is a rousing success.

A return to the dread-inducing horror of earlier games with a nifty first-person twist and the added optional terror of VR compatibility, RE7 is exactly the tonic the series needed, even if it's far from perfect.

For both better and worse, RE7 includes its share of royally screwed up moments, from the grotesquely horrific to the unexpectedly hilarious, to the occasional gameplay section most of us could've probably done without.

It is nothing if not an extremely memorable entry into the series and one that's sure to set the tone from this point forward.

Of course, the black guy's gotta die first. When you meet a cop investigating the Baker house, you agree to meet him in the garage, but as he's talking to you, Jack emerges from behind and plants a shovel in his head, removing the top half of his noggin as he pulls it out.

This leads to the game's first major encounter, a close-quarters battle against Jack where the best option is running him over with his car, and then blasting away at his fiery corpse.

And for extra kicks, the poor cop's head turns up later, having been placed in the fridge of your save room trailer, presumably by Lucas. Lovely.
