21 Best Character Debuts In Gaming History

15. Dante (Devil May Cry)

"Time to go to work, guys" It's hilarious looking back on just how much gaming as a medium has aged, especially when you focus on Devil May Cry. Seriously, when was the last time you watched the opening cinematic from the original DMC? It's an exercise in plain expository dialogue hammered home with enough wooden delivery to erect an entire village. So ridiculous and exaggerated are the portrayals of Dante as The Cool Rogue and Trish as The Mysterious Quest-Giver that right then and there you were either going to be entirely on board with this kind of thing, or be rolling your eyes skyward. Thankfully most of us (especially back then) thought Dante was the coolest thing since a Sub Zero spine-rip, and the one scene many point to as 'that moment' when it all came together was Dante whipping out his two signature pistols (Ebony and Ivory) to deflect a superbike that's been thrown at him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JzX602Z0cs While it's up for debate as to whether or not a half-demon man firing enough bullets to stop a vehicle hitting him is more ridiculous than that dog-throw in Point Break, the fact remains; Dante was instantly one of the most talked-about characters in gaming, and remains so to this day (if you can forget Ninja Theory's reboot of course).
