5 Reasons Why Games Should Not Be Like Films

The Exception! Every rule has an exception (that is a total lie) and so does this list. In my opinion, the only successful crossover between the mediums of gaming and film is Red Dead Redemption. Here's why: Red Dead is first and foremost a game. It is based on a tried and tested gaming model, the GTA franchise, and features missions rather than linear narrative development. The reason it works as a filmic game is because it takes the visual codes and conventions of the western genre, and lovingly uses them to design a 3d playground. It doesn't try and give you a movie experience, it gives you a really great gaming experience and bases it on classic moments from movies.
