6. The Betrayal - A Way Out

Josef Fares' outstanding split-screen co-op adventure forces you and a companion to complete prison breaks, stealth sections and even a mansion assault sequence together - only to invert everything when it turns out character Vincent is actually a cop, tasked with bringing in Leo after the latter was involved in the death of his brother during a sting operation.

The twist comes after you've completed the main objectives laid out across the first three quarters of the game. After fulfilling what was said to be the pair's unifying trait - getting revenge on gang boss, Harvey - a police squad closes in, looking to arrest them both for that initial breakout.

At this point the standoff pivots massively, as the officer holding a gun on both characters suddenly hands it over to Vincent, who, now pointing it at Leo, states he's under arrest.

It's a perfectly player-popping "OHHHHH" moment, and Leo's confusion as everything settles in is just brilliant. From here you enter into a hostage situation as both players now have completely opposite goals for the rest of the game.
