This is most likely going to be the video game quote of 2022 and with good bloody reason, as in a game filled with outstanding boss battles, the continued war of attrition against the mighty Thor in God Of War: Ragnorok hits like a bloody hammer.

Throughout the title, you are plagued by Thor's degrading attitude, his resentment towards Kratos and his son, and his notion of being a "destroyer" and nothing more, and while the player arguably has a more emotional climax in the second clash with the god of thunder, the first battle is something different altogether.

Much like with Baldur in 2018's spectacular reworking of the franchise, Thor surprises Kratos with power that completely overshadows his own. With one swift motion, he knocks our hero into the air so high and with such minimal effort that he's able to deliver a speech about "blood debts" before the pair hit the ground. In that moment it's clear that Thor is going to be one tough bastard, something confirmed when he shrugs off a deep axe wound and repeated blows to the face.

Oh and the fact that he straight-up kills you before then shocking you back to life is one of the best fake-outs in recent memory.

The opening battle might not be as technically challenging as the final clash, but the impact Thor leaves, as well as the way he literally leaves, absconding after awakening the anger in Kratos, leaves the player scrabbling for more, whilst reeling at the sheer might this large lad packs.
