For all the things Destiny got wrong - and that is a LONG list, mostly because of Activision's interference - Bungie nail a sense of scale and importance where necessary.

Simply because storytelling across both games has been so sparse and mostly relegated to background lore cards or codex entries, when something actually happens, the entire player base is immediately enthralled.

Enter The Almighty, a Cabal superweapon poised to destroy the Traveller and all the Guardians down below. Hovering above the Tower where all players visit at some point to refresh gear or decrypt engrams, word was sent out to the fanbase that Earth's protection system Rasputin wouldn't be standing for this much longer.

Come June 6th, Rasputin unleashed a volley of energy blasts on the Almighty that was visible for all those logged into the Tower at the time. The actual animation played out incredibly slowly, but you can't fault the visuals and awesome orchestral score that backed the Almighty ship being blown out the sky.

Careening across the horizon as a giant ball of flames and blinding all those looking its way with a huge explosion of white light, you could even see a piece of the Almighty hit the Tower if you were standing in the right spot.

More of this stuff in Destiny 3, please Bungie.
