8 Video Game Protagonists Who Would Be Better Villains
These protagonists would make for TERRIFYING antagonists.
Creating an iconic video game protagonist sure isn't easy, and typically requires developers to workshop the hell out of their design, write a great script, and then find a killer voice actor to help bring them to life.
And that's without even getting into the moment-to-moment gameplay - they also need to feel fun to control for potentially dozens of gaming hours. No easy feat.
But at the end of the day, sometimes it's tough not to think that some video game protagonists, for all of their apparent heroism, might actually be better-suited to being the villain.
While these characters all kicked a ton of ass in their respective games, their design, their personality, and their power-set all feel just one crappy day away from taking a turn to the dark side.
And so, it's easy to see how these gaming protagonists might actually be a better fit for the Bad Guy role, because who among us would want to get on their bad side and in turn experience their wrath?
If circumstances were just slightly different in these games, these characters would've surely been antagonists rather than protagonists...
8. Isaac Clarke - Dead Space
Let's be real here - if any one of us saw Dead Space's Isaac Clarke walking towards us, we'd surely run a bloody mile.
With his armoured engineering suit complete with a creepy face helmet, Isaac straight-up looks like a slasher movie villain, to say nothing of the fact that he rocks some seriously hefty weaponry like his trusty Plasma Cutter, while also harbouring a penchant for stomping living things into a bloody paste.
And then there's Isaac's well-noted psychological issues, from the trauma of losing his girlfriend Nicole to effectively developing space dementia from his contact with the Marker.
Despite being the ass-kicking hero of Dead Space and a character millions love playing as, Isaac ticks so many damn villain boxes, and considering what he's been through, who could even blame him?
Honestly, a survival horror game where a crazy masked guy in a spacesuit is trying to rip us limb from limb sounds pretty damn awesome.
With the Dead Space franchise basically being on ice for the foreseeable future, why the hell not?
