8 Video Game Easter Eggs That Will Make You Sweat
4. Animal Crossing's Fun Fungi
The Animal Crossing series prides itself on heaving an almost demented level of Nintendo fan service right onto our laps. You might have a baby Metroid chilling in a tank next to your bed, or maybe a Master Sword by the toilet... New Leaf is absolutely rammed with bits of furniture and pieces of clothing that reference Nintendo’s long and storied legacy.
Did you know for instance, that in Animal Crossing New Leaf, you can find “famous mushrooms” buried underground? Consuming these funky fungi will cause your villager to swell in size, and then shrink back down again, much like a certain plumber does on the regular.
To have a go at this yourself, you’ll need to put in the time to make your town officially perfect in the eyes of its inhabitants. This means no weeds, just the right amount of flowers and trees, no trash, enough public works projects, and happy villagers. It’s a lot of commitment, but if you want to pretend to be Mario, it’s the only way.
Or actually, you could just go play a Mario game.
