Heralded in the present as one of the best storytellers in the business right now, Telltale Games hasn't always enjoyed such a glowing reputation. In fact, just one year prior to the runaway success of its tie-in tale of survival based on Robert Kirkman's everlasting Walking Dead series, the developer was struggling to strike an all-important balance between narrative and meaningful gameplay.

Jurassic Park, a commendable in-between sequel bridging the gap between Spielberg's original film and The Lost World, tried its best to provide a rollicking good adventure on the dino-populated island of Isla Nublar but Telltale had yet to figure out how to utilize its strengths - a smart tale unfolding through the eyes of interesting characters - in tandem with justified interactivity.

The Walking Dead isn't perfect, but it blended environmental exploration and meaningful player choice to much greater effect than previous efforts. As such, Lee and Clementine's touching tale of survival to remains it's most successful yet.

If Telltale can further improve on its modus operandi, then there's no limit to what it can achieve.
