9 Worst Video Games Of 2016 (So Far)

Hey, they can't all be Overwatch.

You have to feel sorry for some of the developers putting anything together this year, as when the competition is this fierce, their final products have to be truly immaculate to stand out from the crowd.

Let's take stock of just how impeccable a year it's been so far: Hitman, Dark Souls 3, The Witness, Overwatch, The Division, XCOM 2 - even Uncharted 4 and DOOM released within three days of each other, providing a one-two knockout that I'm still recovering from.

On the other hand though... when so many titles are commanding the spotlight, it leaves a ton of others to wilt in the shade. Inevitably you'll see a 'Most Underrated Games Of The Year' list follow on here soon enough, but in the meantime, a good chunk of the following deserve to wallow in that darkness.

For one reason or another, these titles just didn't hit the mark, instead barely crawling to the finish line and holding out a hand for some money regardless.

The only question is: Did you give it to them?

9. The Walking Dead: Michonne

Telltale Games

You can't knock Telltale's ambition; they went from being a fairly well-known studio, all the way to global household name overnight thanks to The Walking Dead's first season. Since then, they ended up licensing their game engine to everything from Back to the Future to The Wolf Among Us, the result being a string of very well-written games (for the most part) that always fall down on the technical side.

Put simply, they've taken on too many projects at once, resulting in basic failings that dog all subsequent releases, including this latest Michonne spin-off. Outside of audio dropping out and character models moving incredibly stiffly, the actual story behind this tale was nowhere near as engaging as the likes of the first season in the main series.

In the end, Michonne may be a beloved character, but that's precisely why this glorified DLC expansion didn't draw more ire from fans. Here's to the third seasonal instalment righting the ship for good.
