The list of characters in Avengers sounds Mar-Vellous!

With Marvel's Avengers beta now rolling out to those who pre-ordered the game, it was only a matter of time before savvy internet sleuths delved into the games' source code and revealed its mysterious secrets.

Now, thanks to these intrepid coding detectives, we know exactly how some of the pre-release plans for the Avengers game are going to go. It's worth remembering that this title is designed to be a games-as-a-service affair and keep you playing for months, so we can definitely expect to see plenty of extra stuff going forwards.

If the datamine is anything to be believed, we'll be getting regular new characters too, on top of those that are already announced. The data certainly seems legit; it was pulled directly from the PC beta, and all of the characters listed even have the prefix "UnlockablePlayableCharacter_" which seems pretty damn on the nose to us. Whether they're unlockable by actual gameplay, or via DLC, remains to be seen in the future.

There's plenty of potentially exciting additions here which are taken from all aspects of Marvel; in total there's going to be apparently 24 characters at this point! As each character has their own unique abilities and powers, hopefully there'll be plenty of variation to keep Avengers exciting for more than just a couple of weeks.

24. Ant-Man

Step forward pint-sized (or giant-sized, it all depends on how he's feeling at the time) superhero Ant-Man!

Although technically Ant-Man has been two characters in the Marvel franchise over the years (Hank Pym and Scott Lang respectively), it's likely that the iteration we see in Marvel's Avengers will be Scott Lang himself.

Like other characters in the game, this one, however, won't take on the likeness of Paul Rudd and his lovely likeable face.

Ant-Man being in the Avengers game will be a very interesting prospect indeed. It remains to be seen how his shrinking powers could be implemented into the game; would we, for example, be taken down to Ant-Man's perspective and see everything much larger (or smaller, if you can turn into Giant Ant-Man too?). If we can shrink down and punch people using Ant-Man's extreme strength, that's going to be extremely damn satisfying.

This also lends itself to unique missions exclusively available to Ant-Man. Thanks to his ability to shrink down, he could slip into areas that other characters simply can't, opening doorways, disabling turrets or causing havoc with enemy systems while the rest of the team fights outside.
