5. The Setting
From the trailer, we can gather that the game is set on Earth (there is no Killzone interplanetary malarkey happening here) some time into the future. Technology has evolved to the point where its no longer recognisable. From the toys shown in the trailer, its a safe bet to say this is much further into the future than Black Ops II dared to go. Urban warfare is high on the cards, with huge, towering cities taken in, skyscrapers ascended and even an enormous suspension bridge acting as a battlefield. The globe trotting aspect of CoD appears to be intact too with hints towards Middle Eastern cities, forests, the US and even sea based combat all present in the 2 and a half minutes weve just seen. One thing thats worth noting is that the future this world inhabits may be beyond that of Black Ops II, but not far enough that things arent recognisable. This is a built on future, with sleek glass skyscrapers towering over older building and traditional structures. The assumption would be then that AW is set within the next 100 years or so allowing Sledgehammer to mix fantasy with what is known.
