8. Character Creation Borrows A Ton From Cyberpunk 2020

In you didn't know, Cyberpunk 2077 is based on the adventure book, Cyberpunk 2020, released in 1988.

Being a role-playing book that lets you design characters, combat encounters, technological upgrades and enemies, this freeform approach is front and centre in the new Cyberpunk. Things like choosing the reason you're in Night City and establishing a "key life event" are straight out of the book, and point to 2077's campaign assumedly leapfrogging off these choices to frame a "main story".

At the close of the footage, we hear partner Jackie exclaim that he and V are now part of a larger world, though as yet we've not got any idea if Cyberpunk 2077 has a defined main progression, regardless of your character path.
