Solaire Knight Of The Sun

We first encounter Sun Bro in the Undead Burg after killing the Taurus Demon. From his first few chunks of dialogue he is immediately likeable, and gifts himself to you as an invaluable ally throughout the game. He is a kind, gentle-hearted man in an otherwise grim, forbidding world. But the most striking thing about him, and the core of his story, is his longing to €œfind his own sun€.

His mission logically leads to Anor Londo, and when we speak to him there he doesn€™t have a whole lot to say, other than a joke(?) which hints at a certain sexual preference of his. But the important thing to take note is that he still has not found his own sun.

Next, we can speak to him at the Sunlight Alter just outside the Undead Parish. One piece of dialogue reveals that he is €œpondering€ about (his) misfortune€. He has thus far failed to find his sun in numerous places, and is beginning to grow doubtful. Where will he possibly find it?

The latter stages of his story lead him to the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith. When we find him at the last bonfire in the Demon Ruins, he seems to neglect his friendship with the player, as he is so weary of his currently fruitless quest. His desire to find the sun is so strong that it now becomes his madness. But the brave, strong, and diligent knight that Solaire of Astora is does not give up, and he fights on into the fires of Lost Izalith, where€

€ He finds his sun. Or so, he thinks he has. In his warped and desperate state of mind, he decides that the sunlight maggot is fit for his designs, and he dons it as his helm, claiming he is the sun. In doing so, he loses all touch with reality. Corrupted by a wanton bug, he attacks you on sight, and you are left with no real choice but to cut him down. He who was a steadfast friend and ally, an embodiment of hope, a ray of light €“ dead, by your hand. And he dies in a place which, really, could not be further away from the sun. *sigh*

Of course, there is a way to avoid this heartbreak. Just unlock the shortcut to Lost Izalith, kill and collect the sunlight maggot, and Knight Solaire will be saved from his looming insanity. He will survive, and you can summon him to help you fight Lord Gwyn. Praise the sun!
