The video game industry has no shortage of popular and beloved franchises. The last 40 years has seen the creation of many of gamings finest, each release a stepping stone building on the accomplishments of the last. While many continue to see new installments, thus maintaining their level of popularity and relevancy, others have sadly faded into relative obscurity.

This is obviously a shame. There are many franchises whose continued existence would enrich our lives, but instead sit on the sidelines collecting dust while others persevere. We all have those games that we miss and remember fondly, wishing and hoping that another one will get announced one day. But the longer it doesnt happen, the more we resign ourselves to its unlikelihood.

This of course means that, should any of the following franchises come back with a new game after all this time, it would be a genuine shock. No one expects these games to return anytime soon, thus given a return all the more impact. Whether they actually will is a mystery, but the day these classics make a comeback will be an unexpectedly happy one indeed.
