The wait for more news on the Avengers video game, since its cryptic teaser reveal on Jan 2017, has felt loooong. Heck, the Marvel Cinematic Universe managed to release eight movies and wrap up its central continuity within that time!
Not much was known, except Crystal Dynamics was developing - and that after the stellar release of the PS4' Marvels Spider-Man, the bar for these games has been set high.
Well, publisher Square Enix was happy to finally give up the goods for the title; they revealed a long cinematic trailer showcasing the game's plot and tone. Then they spoke about their ambitious plans for a single-player/ multiplayer focused game experience (with an ever upgrading rooster of heroes). Also, they showed off the all-star voice acting cast as well. Plus, no loot boxes or season passes.
And hey, they even gave us a release date...so where the hell was the actual gameplay?
Unfortunately, none was revealed at Square's conference (although a closed-door demo for press was later confirmed).
It was an odd move, with seemingly every other aspect of this game displayed, except what would really sell us on it.
