E3 2019: 7 Ups & 6 Downs From Microsoft's Conference

4. The Disappointing Gears 5 Presentation

Despite learning that Gears 5 is coming sooner than just about anyone expected - September 10th, or September 6th for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers - the much-anticipated sequel had a rather pallid, iffy showing during the conference.

For starters, the conceptual cinematic trailer was unintentionally comical and, honestly, trying way too hard to be artsy, when all people really wanted to see was some new campaign gameplay - of which there was none, by the way.

If that wasn't bad enough, fans had to suffer through another rancid trailer for mobile game Gears POP!, and a bizarre cross-over with the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate - a pre-order add-on allowing players to assume the role of either Sarah Connor or the iconic T-800 cyborg. Right.

Given that Gears 5 is dropping in just three months, it feels wrong-footed not to dazzle players with one final push for the game's campaign. The Coalition did at least show off footage for a new co-op mode, Escape, which looked...fine?
