E3 2021: 20 Huge Video Game Announcements You Need To Know

4. Battlefield 2042's Gameplay Reveal Shows Off 128-Player Insanity

Battlefield 2042 had its official unveiling a few days before E3 kicked off in earnest, but fans got their first full-fat glimpse of the game's insane 128-player multiplayer (or 64 players on last-gen platforms) during Microsoft's show.

The supposedly pre-alpha footage shown off looks remarkably polished and, most importantly, brilliantly chaotic.

From wingsuits to ziplines, airdropped tanks, and even a damn tornado that can sweep through the map and destroy large swaths of it, it looks like the most ambitious Battlefield yet.

It certainly seems like DICE has taken advantage of the game's lack of a single-player campaign to focus on a refined, ambitious multiplayer suite. We can assume we'll see a bigger blowout for the game at EA's own EA Play event on July 22.

Battlefield 2042 releases on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 22.
