Jon Shafer, is a bit of a hero for strategy gamers, as he was the lead designer of Civilisation V. Yet he ventured out on his own via Kickstarter in 2013 and created this personal project - a throwback to traditional strategy games.

The plot features the player in charge of a clan of Barbarians in the Dark Ages, fighting back warring tribes and the impending Roman Empire - all done in retro isometric design.

Not much appeal for casual gamers here, but for fans of the sub-genre looking for systems as deep and dense as a gaping chasm, this title is set to fulfil your retro needs.
