Fallout 4: 7 More Disturbing Stories & Locations You Totally Missed

Fallout 4 is the game that keeps on giving. Although by now, most players have exhausted the main quest multiple times over and polished off all the remaining side missions, the base game still has plenty of stories to find once you go off the beaten path.

In unmarked locations, hidden in secret bunkers or tucked away in corners of places you've already visited, some of the best mini-narratives of the entire franchise can be found scattered across the Boston Commonwealth. From family tragedies to straight-up bloodbaths, these stories shed some light on the darker side of the wasteland.

Because in between trips to Nuka World and solving crimes for uppity robots in Far Harbour, there's plenty of disturbing things going on all over Boston that you probably didn't even notice on your first time through. Even better, the game rarely ever spells out exactly what happened to these people and places, leaving you to do a little detective work on your own to figure out just how and why these points of interest became the way they are.

Considering the tone of the last few expansion packs, it's clear Bethesda has been revelling in the sillier side of the Fallout universe, yet these amazing discoveries prove that the developer hasn't completely given up on the disturbing, emotionally wracking side of the series' signature post-apocalyptic setup.

Edwin's House, a small, ramshackle location that you can find just West of central Boston is home to one the most tragic love stories this side of Shakespeare. The terminal in the shack tells the tale of how Annika, the original owner of the property, fell in love with Edwin - even though she held him up at gunpoint when the two first met.

Unfortunately, after years of roaming the Commonwealth and surviving together, Annika is killed. In his grief, Edwin returned to the shack where the two first met in order to live out the remainder of his days with only Bess, a mutated brahmin, for company.

But the final entries on the terminal detail how Edwin lost Annika's locket - the only reminder he had of his former lover - at the bottom of the nearby lake after his boat was overturned in an accident.

Even though the water is hugely irradiated, surrounded by bloatflies and pretty darn deep, Edwin swam down, presumably drowning before he could make his way back to the surface.

If you search the bed of the lake for yourself you can actually find his lifeless body at the bottom, clutching the locket he gave his life for.
