It's taken some time, but Chris Smalling is finally beginning to quieten his doubters with a string of excellent defensive performances for Manchester United. The criticism aimed in his direction was well-justified, but he's progressing very well at the moment. He's an established 25-year-old centre back now, and no longer a youth product out of his depth. He'll want to sustain his upward curve if he wants to become a truly world class defender by the time he peaks, but for now, he's deserving of a FIFA boost considering his current rating only puts him level with Dejan Lovren, Joleon Lescott and Younes Kaboul.
