GTA 6: 10 Specific Lessons It Must Learn From Recent Games
8. Single Player Is Back In Vogue
For a while throughout the early to mid-2010s, it looked as if single-player gaming was dying out. Online shooters, FIFA Ultimate Team and the boom of the Battle-Royale genre suggested that the market had moved beyond lengthy, story-driven solo experiences.
Thankfully, this is not the case, as single-player games have returned to the forefront of demand in recent years.
Games like Spider-Man, God of War, Jedi Fallen Order and Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption 2 have proven that there’s still a yearning for these experiences as well as that for online, multiplayer showdowns. The unprecedented demand for The Last Of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077 further emphasises the fact that these types of games are still widely popular.
GTA Online has been a monumental financial success, but this should not stand in the way of future single-player instalments. The fact that there was never any single-player DLC released for GTAV and that we still haven’t seen any for Red Dead 2 can lead to concerns about Rockstar’s attitude toward single-player gaming.
Rockstar have some of the best video game writers on the planet under their belt and we hope that they continue to be utilised to their full potential. Online is a very lucrative extra, but it’s not why we fell in love with the franchise.
