Hatred: Can You Handle The Most Controversial Game Of All Time?
Coming to a nightly news report near you.
Chances are you've heard of Postal, developer Running with Scissors' foray into the mind of a psychotic postal worker who decides he's had enough of life, turning a gun (and anything else he can find) on the entire populace in the most violent way possible. Well, small team Destructive Creations have been causing quite the stir over the last few months, ever since this horrifically violent title, Hatred, was first announced. They stated that modern gaming had become to 'safe' and sterile (a point that doesn't really hold water when the best selling game of all time is Grand Theft Auto), and so decided to literally create a 'genocide simulator', with you in the guise of a gruff-voiced maniac, blasting holy hell out of innocent civilians. How do you heal? Well, you execute people after first knocking them to the floor. Slit throats, eye-stabs, gun-in-mouth blasts... the list goes on and on. Destructive state that the game is intended to let people blow off steam after a long day at work or otherwise stressful time, and now that it's finally out (June 1st) we're faced with the reality that underneath all the controversy, is a well-playing, mechanically-proficient experience. Gamespot are one of the first major outlets to cover this in a frank "Well let's just see how it plays..." way, as oppose to the reactionary "Save the children!" response that'll inevitably be everywhere in the following weeks - as many other highly-regarded sites are more hesitant to show it. It's also worth pointing out the game has been banned and reinstated by Steam, Twitch have refused to let people stream it, and the American ESRB have rated it 'AO (Adults Only)'; the same rating they give to pornography/adult entertainment. Is it that bad? You'll have to see for yourself. (But yes, it is.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Q99cTHR-k Let us know in the comments if something should ever be outright banned, or whether you'll be picking up Hatred yourself.
