It's become increasingly known Cyberpunk 2077 will be receiving both PS5 and Xbox Series X versions at some point in the future. They won't be available at launch of course, but they are in the works. But this begs the question whether players should wait for the more superior version of the game if they know they'll be upgrading hardware in the near future.

Stuff like this has happened before with GTA5, after all. Are we going to be forced to pay for the game twice if we're impatient?

Thankfully, CD Projekt RED announced a better solution.

Earlier today, the company announced on Twitter that owners of the Xbox One version of Cyberpunk 2077 will be upgraded to the Series X version once it releases. And the best part is that this upgrade will be absolutely free.

This is made possible through what Microsoft calls the "Smart Delivery" feature for the Series X. It's essentially a better version of the "Cross Buy" concept pioneered by Sony a few years back. It allows you to pay one price for multiple versions of a single game.

For example, when Halo Infinite comes out later on this year, buying the game on the Xbox One will also grant you the same game on Series X (and vice versa). Microsoft initially only confirmed their own first party titles would take advantage of this, but Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the first third-party games to make use of this feature.

It should be noted, however, that there hasn't been a similar announcement regarding the future PS5 version of the game. While this is always subject to change, this could be a major coup between the consoles if Sony doesn't follow suit.
