Nintendo NX: 8 Rumours That Would Dominate Xbox One & PS4

The return of the king.

It's no secret that the Wii U has been a commercial failure. It took the system three years to shift the same number of units as Sega's infamous gaming disaster, the Dreamcast.

But returning to form is what Nintendo does best. In the face of adversary, it rises like a plumber hurtling towards a bunch of coin-filled bricks. Take what happened after the Gamecube, for example. Following lukewarm sales, the gaming giant retreated, regrouped and returned with the world-dominating Wii, which sold over one hundred million units worldwide.

In the case of the Wii U, Nintendo attempted to capitalise not only on the casual market, but on hardcore gamers as well. In an attempt to satisfy two very different groups of people, they ended up alienating both.

Surely much has been learned by Nintendo in the last half decade, and if the rumours about what they've got in store are to be believed, they might just be on the brink of world domination once more - stomping on Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One like they're merely Goombas beneath Super Mario's immortal feet.

8. You'll Get Real Rewards For Playing Games

If you've bought a Nintendo exclusive in the last five years, no doubt you'll remember finding a red piece of paper inside the box, complete with a silver panel that when scratched away, revealed a lengthy code. This was how you earned points for the awesome Club Nintendo system, one that promoted the buying of first party Nintendo titles in exchange for real, physical rewards.

Collect enough points and you could nab anything from figures to calendars to blankets, all Nintendo themed and all awesome. One of the criticisms levelled at this system, however, was the long periods of time the shop would go without being updated. Eventually, in late 2015, Club Nintendo was scrapped, paving the way for a new, more up-to-date system. And that new system sounds super exciting. Not only will gamers earn points for buying games, they're also going to earn points for playing them. Though they've been lacking a satisfying achievement system for some time now, if Nintendo somehow combines achievements with the ability to earn rewards in the form of free merchandise and DLC, they'll change the game entirely (literally).
