Pokémon: Detective Pikachu Trailer Reactions - 5 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Too. Much. Fur.

One of the most surprising aspects of the trailer is the decision to give many of the Pokémon fur, counter to their smoother designs in the source material.

Rather than evoke the "tactile" look the filmmakers were presumably hoping for, it just feels like the fur was chosen so the Pokémon could be more easily marketed as fluffy toys following the movie's release.

Furthermore, while a furry Pikachu pretty much works, Jigglypuff just looks all kinds of wrong, giving off an unfortunate, weird uncanny valley vibe that's sure to rub many fans the wrong way.

It's not a deal-breaker and something everyone will hopefully get accustomed to, but still, there's way too much fur going on here.
