13. Start With A Pikachu

One of the early tidbits of secret info that got out there was that you can actually completely ignore the traditional three starter Pokémon.

In fact, if you walk away from Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur four times in a row, Pikachu will show up instead.

It does mean you literally have to walk real-world distance to trigger Pikachu's appearance, but once you've got him, he's yours forever! (Providing you don't trade him for candy, of course).
