Run Roo Run - iPhone & iPad Game Review

Run Roo Run is the Angry Birds of 2012 and in my opinion is one of the games contenders for Apple's game of the year already!

Run Roo Run by 5th Cell (trailer at the bottom), for iPhone and iPad is simple to pick up and play, but hard to finish game that rewards split-second accuracy. If you were one of those gamers that toiled over Mario to get the timing of jumping from pipe to pipe just right, then this is the game for you. Run Roo Run forgoes complex touch-based controls, yet still delivers that satisfying rush when you make the right moves. You play a mother kangaroo who's Joey gets stolen from her by zoo keepers from Sydney. The levels start at Perth, on the west coast of Australia, progressing through deserts, roads and cities to finish up in Sydney on the east coast of Australia. The beginning few locations are a touch too easy, but get a lot harder, quite quickly. In each location there are 15 levels, once they you complete those you unlock 6 further 'extreme' levels there are currently over 400 normal levels and 100 extreme levels, with 10 new ones added each week, where you have to put what you have just learned at the location to the test, whether that be slo-mo jumps or double jumping and so on. But the extreme levels can be skipped if the player wishes too, you get quite a lot of bang for your buck (or 69p). All the levels are scored on a three star basis, pretty much like Angry Birds and Cut The Rope. The game is colourful with a cheery sweet soundtrack but don't let that fool you, I fell into the trap of thinking 'this level is going to be easy' but 30 minutes later I still hadn't finished it. The game fuses innocent and sweet looking visuals with a cute story and difficult levels which demand you jump at exactly the right time or else you'll be wearing out the top corner of your screen, where the retry button is. Run Roo Run costs 69p or 99c on iPhone and £1.49 or $1.99 on iPad. Run Roo Run is the Angry Birds of 2012 and in my opinion is one of the games contenders for Apple's game of the year already!
