The 20 Worst Games Of 2025
8. FBC: Firebreak
One of the biggest upsets of the year arrived in FBC: Firebreak, which was supposed to capitalise on and expand the Remedy Connected Universe (Alan Wake, Control, etc.), but was instead a sort of content-less add-on that bunked out on lore and narrative.
First-person shooter FBC: Firebreak is set six years after Control, and lets you play as the Federal Bureau of Control’s Firebreak special unit as you enter FBC HQ and take out a variety of enemies controlled by the Hiss. And that’s kind of as far as it goes.
The Remedy games are known for their engaging and interlinked storyline, but Firebreak has essentially zero contributions to the narrative. It is also a first-person co-op shooter, which goes against Remedy’s primarily third-person action/ horror style, and has failed even to capitalise on this properly, going live with clunky weaponry and repetitive gameplay.
Apparently a major update is still on the way (including a COD Zombies-style survival mode), but it has been pushed back to early 2026. Whether Firebreak will have many players left by then remains to be seen.
