The Last Of Us Part II: 5 Take-Aways From Sony's E3 Conference
1. Ellie Has Changed
Ellie's no longer the little girl of The Last of Us.
Now that she's the main character, we get to focus on her character progression. The game's director Neil Druckmann said the game is about hate, as opposed to love in the original, so it doesn't seem like the other people at the barn dance are going to live very longer. She needs motivation, after all.
In the combat sequence, there were many particularly brutal animations. In particular Ellie executed several people with a machete, and shot them point blank in the head. She seems to have no reservations about this slaughter - something must have changed in her to make her this way.
Between the morally dubious answer Joel gave her at the end of the first game, the years she's had to survive since, and the predictable fate of everyone in the cutscene, it seems she will have a lot of hatred to work out on all these enemies she fights.
While there wasn't as much information given on the game as anyone would have liked, there's still enough to get the gist in terms of story and gameplay. Hopefully we'll hear more in the coming months.
