8 Great Video Games That Inspired EVEN BETTER Ones
5. Gran Turismo Inspired Forza
Following the launch of the Xbox, Microsoft wanted to produce their own racing franchise to rival the PlayStation's esteemed Gran Turismo, resulting in 2005's Forza Motorsport.
While it would be absurd to diminish the achievements of Gran Turismo, it's also fair to say that the series lost a lot of its shine after the PS2 era, with the last three games having their fair share of fanbase-alienating elements.
At the same time, Forza continued to go from strength to strength with its more accessible gameplay loop, defined by the ingenious ability to rewind gameplay and undo any of your gaffes on the track.
But the real watershed moment for Forza was the birth of spin-off series Forza Horizon, which adopted a more colourful, laid-back, arcadey style, and made Gran Turismo seem positively boring by comparison.
This was bolstered by the recently released Forza Horizon 6 racking up rave reviews, and while Gran Turismo remains a hugely popular series in its own right, its dead-serious Driving Simulator gameplay isn't nearly as compulsively addictive.
