Ups & Downs From Star Trek: Voyager - Across The Unknown
1. Down: The Voice
Back when Across the Unknown was just a demo in the eyes of Trek fans, the opening scroll confirmed that there was still a lot of work to do.
For sure, this was only a taste of what was to come, the opening act of a far larger and engaging game that would immerse players in the story of the USS Voyager and its trip home. One of the key points was that voice-overs were going to be added before release.
What wasn't specified was how much voiceover work would be included with the finished product. Sadly, the extensive dialogue between characters that dominates the game is text. The only elements that have been vocalised are the introductions to each of the episodes within the narrative. Tom Paris opens Caretaker, for example, while Tuvok orates the start of State of Flux. When we video reviewed the demo, this was a major talking point, but the promise was there that the voice-overs would be added and make it an even more immersive Voyager experience.
Get used to those two voices as well because they'll be the ones taking players through the levels, meaning that a good portion of the Voyager cast's dulcet tones aren't joining the journey.
