What Really Happened With Splinter Cell? (And Why It's Coming Back)
The Perfect Reintroduction For A Mass Audience
Imagine a conference with huge attendance figures; the millions watching at home and scores in your venue of choice.
Ubisoft are mid-showcase, having just shown off a few expected trailers and footage.
All of a sudden, the lights go out. We wait a few seconds as phone lights and torches plumb the darkness, until...
With that, the iconic three goggles light up the screen, and Michael Ironside walks out.
Whilst it's on Ubisoft to say whether Sam Fisher is in an advisory role for new Splinter Cell recruits, or going with a full-blown sequel, we need Michael Ironside to re-announce Splinter Cell to the world.
After everything he's been through, give this legendary actor his Keanu Reeves' Cyberpunk moment. Or in a more subdued fashion that was still really cool, give him the Jon Bernthal Ghost Recon moment.
For returning fans it would be a dream come true, and for any newcomers, they immediately know the IP is something important.
Back to the facts though, and Splinter Cell has sold millions of units; meant so much to so many people, Michael Ironside and Yves Guillermot's comments can't have been for nothing.
Roll on the next generation, and the return of Sam Fisher.
