1. Mary Shaw - Dead Silence
In James Wan's underrated supernatural flick, Detective Jamie Ashen finds his girlfriend has been murdered immediately after receiving a ventriloquist doll in the mail.
After speaking to his father Edward and step-mother Ella, the detective learns about Mary Shaw; a ventriloquist whose reputation was sullied after being mocked by Jamie's great-uncle, Michael. When Mary murdered Michael, his family hunted her down and cut out her tongue before killing her. As a result, Shaw was reborn as a vengeful spirit that won't rest until the Ashen bloodline has been wiped out. Since Jamie is a direct descendant, Shaw intends to kill everyone connected to him, including anyone helping him with his case.
During the climax, Jamie destroys all of Shaw's dummies, seemingly giving her no conduit to remain in the world of the living. Relieved the nightmare is finally over, Jamie returns to Edward and Ella's home.
To his horror, Jamie discover Shaw is still alive and has been in possession of Ella's body for years. Worse still, Edward has been dead for quite some time, with "Ella" controlling him like a ventriloquist doll, using him to manipulate Jamie.
Mary then transfers her essence into his body, successfully ending the life of the last Ashen family member.
