10. John - Hell of a Summer
Some horror movies just can't help but get their best kill out of the way first, and that's absolutely true of Finn Wolfhard's directorial debut Hell of a Summer.
This summer camp-set slasher flick opens with one of the owners of Camp Pineway, John (Adam Pally), hanging out with his wife Kathy (Rosebud Baker) on the campgrounds one night. Kathy heads off to grab a few beers while John waits for her and plays his guitar, but when she returns, she finds John dead with his own guitar shoved halfway down his throat.
It certainly sets the tone for the rest of the movie, both in terms of the gory death itself and the completely absurd logistics of forcing a guitar neck that far down someone's gob. Again, though, it's such a twistedly creative death scene that the rest of Hell of a Summer doesn't have a hope in hell of topping it. Truly, the film peaked in its first three minutes.
