20 Great Horror Roles Ruined By Terrible Acting

19. Carrie (2013) - Carrie White

As with many, many other cases on this list, this here is a case of 'Death by Miscasting'.

It's easy to see why Chloe Grace Moretz was cast as Carrie White in 2013's remake. As much as her career has stalled from the late 2010s onward, she was perhaps the most popular young actor in Hollywood at the time, but the fact remains that she was totally ill-suited for the role of Carrie White.

The part needed someone who could convincingly portray a lonely, socially awkward outcast, and Moretz, a confident, successful, and conventionally attractive Hollywood star, just wasn't right. She does good work in the later scenes, when Carrie goes on her rampage, but feels ill at ease during the film's early sections and just ends up moping her way through a lot of the film. This contrasts heavily with the original Carrie adaptation, in which Sissy Spacek gave one of the best performances ever seen in a horror movie.

In Mike Flanagan's upcoming Carrie miniseries, the title role will be played by Summer H. Howells, a relatively unknown actress. Really, casting an unknown who could fully disappear into the role would've been the better choice here as well.
