20 Horror Movies That Are FINALLY Happening

As beloved and successful as the original Gremlins is, its extremely zany, off-the-wall sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch was a gigantic box office flop despite being, well, one of the greatest sequels of all time.

So, there weren't any serious talks about a third Gremlins for more than 20 years, though throughout the 2010s a few attempts were made to produce both a reboot and a sequel.

Every few years, original writer Chris Columbus would pop up to espouse his enthusiasm for Gremlins 3, but there wasn't much indication that it would actually go before cameras. But in April 2025, Warner Bros. finally confirmed that Gremlins 3 had the official greenlight, with original star Zach Galligan later confirming the script was finished, with Columbus set to direct.

Last year, a November 19, 2027 date was set, with Columbus set to co-write the script with Final Destination: Bloodlines filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

Most recently, reports emerged suggesting that Jenna Ortega was in talks to play the lead role, prompting speculation she might well be playing the daughter of protagonists Billy (Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates). Either way, almost 40 years after the last Gremlins film, we're finally, finally getting another.
