10 Amazing Rock Albums That You Didn't Know Were About Drugs

1. Station to Station - David Bowie

For all of his antics, David Bowie didn't really need drugs to wow an audience. Ever since breaking onto the scene with his character of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie was an artist that was looking to take us on a musical journey with every single genre he pulled from. The times were changing at the end of the '70s though, and Bowie definitely had some lost years when he first started his Berlin period.

Before settling in Germany to make his kraut rock albums, the Thin White Duke phase of Bowie's work begins with Station to Station, which was made in California shortly after wrapping up on Young Americans. And from the looks of it, Bowie was not taking care of himself at all around this time, being pencil thin and living off of a diet of peppers, milk, and cocaine every day. This eventually led to some pretty outlandish behavior as well, like praising Adolf Hitler in interviews and getting more into the occult during this period.

While Bowie did finally end up kicking his vices, the record that he made is still absolutely stellar, with every weird idea thrown at the wall and all of them managing to stick in some way. Don't ask Bowie how it happened though, since he has gone on record saying that he doesn't even remember the recording sessions for this album. Let this be a lesson, future rock stars. Just because Station to Station is a great album, that doesn't mean it's always the best idea for your health.
