10 Best Metal Albums Of The 90's

2. Slipknot-Slipknot

With the 90's reaching its end, the nu metal scene was booming with bands that were dawning tank tops and shouting about their troubled childhoods. It was easy to characterize these bands as just adolescent kids, but one band from Iowa came out of the woodwork to bludgeon the metal world.

Sporting 9 mask-dawned maniacs, Slipknot hit the scene like a pack of wild dogs as they combined elements of thrash, death metal, and nu metal to create their original concoction of musical terror. The music could scare any grandmother to an early grave, but the tunefulness behind the band's compositions were absolutely infectious, with head madman Corey Taylor switching from shouting to singing without blinking an eye. Whether you were into heavy music or hard rock, songs like "Eyeless," "Surfacing," and "Wait and Bleed" were to become the blueprint that would lead the band to heavy metal glory.

For anyone who has ever been sent into a frenzy through Slipknot's music, this record is ground zero where all the Maggots first started to congregate. Ever since the release of this debut, metal bands around the world are still trying to capture the same intensity that Slipknot brought to the music scene.
